Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the oldest black town in the United States, is marred in an interesting history that has been lost over time like most relics of the Mississippi Delta, but at one point in history, boasted vast economic and cultural resources for African-Americans in Mississippi. Today, the town faces challenges with preserving infrastructure (crumbling buildings), economic opportunities, and healthy institutions to help the community thrive.
In partnership with the Mississippi Heritage Trust, RED SQUARED has worked with community leaders and historians to create a film that tells the nationally significant story of Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Additional partners include Flynn Design, TELL Agency, Medgar & Myrlie Evers Institute, Center for Ideas, Equity and Transformative Change, the City of Mound Bayou, and the Mound Bayou Civic Club.
